What is Tay Sachs Disease?

Tay Sachs Disease is a uncommon and unusual hereditary problem occurred due to the lack of a crucial enzyme called hexosaminidase-A (Hex-A). It may cause to the growth damage of central nerves system.

Causes of Tay Sachs Disease

Tay Sachs Disease occurs due to the lack of hexosaminidase A (Hex-A) because it is very important to build up the normal level of GM2 ganglioside in the cell that is mainly in the nerve cell which is in the brain. This constant growth may damage to the cell. This damaging process get starts to the infant from the time of the pregnancy but it doesn't shows the symptoms before but after a few month or year of the birth of the child his or her nerves system gets affected very badly which causes to the mental retardation. Some children can't survive more year of their life and that may be about four or five year.

Symptoms of Tay Sachs Disease

Baby who are affected with Tay Sachs Disease born very safe and with no difficulty but only for five or six month of birth because after these month all problems get starts to both child and parents but it is mostly difficult to parents. Smiling, crying, slipping at late night and feeding at night, lighting up when parents walk in to the room, these are the symptoms occurs in the early stage of this disease to the child.

The baby who had been normally growing they face problem later because they yet grow but the milestone doesn't come in time. Some baby gets hearing and visual problem. When these babies pass their first year they loss their ability of walking, standing. Seizures starts in the second year and they may become completely deaf and dumb or may get paralyzed.

These children may experience Irritability, Loss of motor skills, Listlessness etc. Even after care they die and it is because of inhaling vomit and developing pneumonia.

Treatment of Tay Sachs Disease

There is no treatment or heal for the patient of this disease. The best thing is to make patient comfortable and happy because even with the best care children's with this disease can't survive more than five years of their age. besides this Anticonvulsant medicine is useful to control seizures and other treatment such as nutrition and hydration and techniques of open airways are supportive. children may require feeding tube.
