Relaxation Techniques

Relaxation techniques are very helpful for anxiety, stress, or for the mental well being.

One such technique is called progressive relaxation.

  1. Imagine that your toes weigh a thousand pounds and you couldn't move them if you wanted to. Let them go completely limb.
  2. Do the same with each part of your body, relaxing the muscles and working your way up to the top of your head.
  3. Don't neglect the facial muscles. Tension often centers in the forehead or the jaw and keeps you from relaxing.

An alternate is to imagine that your breath is coming in through the toes of your right foot, all the way up to your lungs, and back out through the same foot. Do this three times. Repeat the procedure for the left foot and then for each of your arms.
