Cymbalta Antidepressant Medication - Benefits of CYMBALTA, precautions and safety; and complete information on cymbalta

Antidepressants is like a wonder drug for lot of people suffering from depression and related disorders but, unfortunately finding the right antidepressant for you may be a difficult and time consuming task. The humoungous task in finding the right antidepressant for you is that it can take up to two or three months before you know if a particular drug is right for you.  Finally, to rescue from such mamoth amount of effort and risk, there is an antidepressant available that can be given to a whole variety of people suffering from different things. This wonder drug is thought to work faster than other average antidepressant.  Some patients have reported a distinct improvement of their depression symptoms with this antidepressant, Cymbalta. Cymbalta is a relatively new drug that more and more people are trying with great success.  It's not an understatement to say that Cymbalta is capable of changing the lives of a great many people. This drug belongs to the SNRI family of drugs.

This type of medication seeks to help your neurons respond better to serotonin and norepinephrine that your body produces.  Cymbalta is an antidepressant not unlike many of the antidepressants out there. Cymbalta is a multiple reuptake inhibitor, which doesn't mean that it will produce more serotonin and norepinephrine, rather it will allow your neurons to basically soak for a longer period of time in these brain produced chemicals to help balance your state of being and hopefully overcome depression.

It's also said that Cymbalta may even help in the uptake process of dopamine, which is another element in the brain that may be lacking, causing depression amongst other things.  In short, Cymbalta works with the chemicals in the brain to help you achieve a balance, and return to the happy, healthy, non-depressed person that you really want to be. Cymbalta is usually prescribed for those who suffer from major depressive disorder , though it's been found through clinical trials that the drug is also highly effective for treating diabetic neuropathy or pain caused by a degeneration of the nerves due to long periods of high glucose levels.  It's always exciting when researchers find a drug that no only has the ability to treat something as widespread as depression, but it's also able to treat the horrendous pains of another health issue altogether.  There is no doubt that doctors and researchers will continue to find other uses for Cymbalta well into the future.

The Benefits Of Cymbalta

The benefits and efficacy of Cymbalta depends on individual to individual and everyone has its own experiences to tell. Some of the benefits of cymbalta are laid below:

  1. One of the greatest benefits is that it seems to work more quickly than other antidepressants. With Cymbalta a good deal of people have begun to see improvement in just a handful of days, or two to three weeks, which is a much more acceptable time frame.
  2. Relieving depression is a huge benefit to the life of anyone who suffers from major depressive disorder, or any type of depression that his or her doctor deems worthy of medicating. Depression can be as crippling as any physical disease, and stopping or even relieving the extent of the symptoms will be the single best benefit of any drug, including Cymbalta.
  3. For neuropathy pain, just having a medication that helps is a benefit enough.
  4. Cymbalta works to basically marinate your neurons in these brain chemicals, and that helps to relieve pain.  Often, when attempting to relieve nerve pain other medications are used in conjunction with Cymbalta to repair nerve tissue to relieve pain both short term and long term.
  5. Cymbalta is a very beneficial drug for many people who suffer from the awful nerve pain associated with diabetes and other diseases.

What is the mechanism of action of Cymbalta Medication?

There are mainly two naturally occurring chemicals in the brain and body of human beings which plays a vital role in major depressive disorders. To name them, they are serotonin and norepinephrine.Researches have shown that these natural chemicals play a vital role in both major depressive disorder (MDD) and diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP). The work of Cymbalta medication is to help in restoring the balance of these two naturally occurring chemicals in the brain and body.

Care while taking Cymbalta

As mentioned above you'll want to be careful not to mix Cymbalta with MAOI type drugs.  There are also a variety of drugs that you may or may not be able to take in conjunction with Cymbalta these drugs may include:

  • A phenothiazine such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Prolixin), mesoridazine (Serentil), perphenazine (Trilafon), prochlorperazine (Compazine), and possibly others in this drug category.
  • A quinolone antibiotic such as trovafloxacin (Trovan), ciprofloxacin (Cipro), ofloxacin (Floxin), and other similar drugs.
  • An antiarrhythmic such as flecainide (Tambocor) or propafenone (Rythmol) and possibly others.
  • A tricyclic antidepressant such as amitriptyline (Elavil), imipramine (Tofranil), doxepin (Sinequan), nortriptyline (Pamelor and possibly others in this category.
  • The medication venlafaxine commonly known as Effexor.
  • A selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) such as fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), paroxetine (Paxil, Pexeva), fluvoxamine (Luvox), and others.

There is no fear that if you use above drugs you cannot take cymbalta. But it simply means that your doctor may have to monitor you more closely, or you may have to wait for a couple weeks to start taking Cymbalta.  Serious drug interactions can take place if the wrong medications are mixed, so it's always best to err on the side of caution.
